Cycling in the Minho Region

Set off on a self-guided cycling odyssey through the lush river valleys of Portugal’s Minho wine region and the dramatic coast of Galicia.

Ride along tranquil roads through medieval villages, past rivers ideal for swimming, and vineyards producing the region’s famous Vinho Verde.

​Overnight stays in bed & breakfasts, boutique hotels, restored monasteries, and stately manor houses ensure each night is memorable.

Day to Day

Day 1 - Viana do castelo

Explore Viana do Castelo's enchanting medieval center and cobblestone streets. ​

Day 2 - Viana do Castelo to Arcos de Valdevez 53 km / 33 mi

Enjoy a scenic ride on mostly flat, dedicated bike paths through lush landscapes and scenic river views. 

Day 3 - Arcos de Valdevez Loop Ride
​45 km / 28 mi

A rewarding loop ride into Peneda-Gerês National Park, following scenic back roads through mountain villages. 

Day 4 - Arcos de Valdevez to Monção 
46 km / 29 mi

This scenic route takes you north following riverside bike paths and low traffic roads to the charming town of Monção. 

Day 5 - Monção to Caminha
